Chess Suite / Getting started
Set up your first website
Work through your identity, design, pages and navigation before inviting visitors.
Set your identity
- Open Chess Suite → Brand & Design. Enter your organization name, logo and contact information. Use the name of your federation, academy, school, event business or community; the example organization name is only sample content.
- Choose your colors and typography. Save, then view the public website. Check the logo on a light and dark background and confirm that text remains readable.
Choose a starting layout
- Open Starter Sites to review the available design collections. Studio, Heritage, Modern Arena and Momentum provide different visual starting points. Preview the intended layout before applying it.
- Read the import options. Applying a layout and applying its colors and typefaces are separate choices. If you already set your branding, leave the optional colors and typefaces choice unchecked.
- Apply the selected layout only after reading the acknowledgement. Existing records and front-page/menu choices are retained by the layout workflow. Review the result rather than repeatedly importing to try to fix a missing page.
Connect your pages
- Open Website Settings and enable the public areas your organization uses. Check the assigned pages for events, joining, community, learning and contact as applicable to your plan.
- Open Navigation and review the links visitors will see. Follow every link from the public website. A WordPress page existing in the dashboard does not by itself put that page in the menu.
- If a route is blank or opens the wrong content, review Site Tools and the page assignments. Check the page’s publish status and template before changing permalink settings.
Launch check
- Replace example names, photographs, contact details and events. Preview on desktop and a narrow mobile screen. Test the joining, contact and event-registration journeys while signed out.
- Invite one staff user with the appropriate role before inviting the rest of your team. Confirm what that user can see and edit. Your first website is ready when its public links, forms and staff access behave as intended.
